Scleroderma Canada

Julian served as the Digital Communications Coordinator at Scleroderma Canada, a charity organization raising funds and awareness for Scleroderma. Scleroderma, also known as systemic sclerosis, is a group of rare diseases that involve the hardening and tightening of the skin. Scleroderma also may cause problems in the blood vessels, internal organs and digestive tract.

Julian was drawn to this role because he felt it would be extremely meaningful to be a part of a team that is fighting for the people afflicted by such a brutal and rare disease. To the right are some of the things he is most proud of accomplishing in his two month paid internship with the organization.

Make A Move Events

Julian assisted in the promotion, planning, and execution of 4 "Make A Move" events across Ontario. These events were walks that encouraged donations, spread awareness of the disease, and brought the Scleroderma community together in support of one another. Julian promoted these events via a month-long email marketing campaign that recapped the events every Monday and previewed upcoming events. He also promoted them via Scleroderma's social media channels, and he assisted in the facilitation of event promotion via other formats (billboards, posters, etc.). At the events themselves, Julian assisted in the physical set up and take down of the various event materials, captured social media content for live stories as well as for later use in promotional materials, and interacted with attendees and patients.

Email Marketing

As mentioned above, Julian promoted Make A Move events every week through a weekly series that ran every Monday, recapping past walks and promoting future ones. He also simultaneously ran another email marketing campaign that went up every Wednesday that compiled all of the #InvisibleBattles content that had been posted that week. #InvisibleBattles was the theme of that year's Scleroderma Awareness Month (June), and the content focused on highlighting the unseen battles that people might not realize are faced by Scleroderma patients. He executed both of these campaigns via ConstantContact.

Social Media Promotion

Julian also promoted these events via Scleroderma Canada's various social media channels, including Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook. He both designed, wrote copy for, and scheduled a number of posts across these different platforms. To do so, he utilized Canva Pro and Hootsuite. He also used Meta Business Suite to monitor and respond to both comments and direct messages across Instagram and Facebook.
